Responsibilities:

  • Greet and engage with customers to take orders, answer questions and offer excellent customer service in a warm and professional manner.
  • Take orders accurately from customers, relaying them to other staff as needed. 
  • Reliably prepare a variety of drinks with accuracy and care.
  • Operate cash registers correctly and efficiently; handling cash and credit transactions.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the coffee stand area, including equipment, utensils, and seating areas following WA State food handling and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist customers by loading orders into their vehicle (bagged material, plants, tools, statuary) in all weather conditions on the roadway.
  • Unload and process incoming plant and hardgoods material alongside multiple department staff members  (Sky provides opportunities for lift equipment training/certified forklift operation).
  • Assist in implementing department merchandising plans: setting up displays, and moving product
  • Assist customers in finding desired items across departments, or locate appropriate staff to do so.

Sky Nursery has earned and maintained a reputation for high-quality and a wide variety of products. Our Greenhouse receiving team is a key part of ensuring excellent and accurately priced products make their way to our customers. This is a hands-on position involved in both leading and working alongside in the Greenhouse receiving process.

This is a full time hourly position with benefit eligibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume primary responsibility for efficiently managing deliveries of Greenhouse product (annuals, perennials, vegetables & herbs). Appropriately prioritize tasks required to move product off of dock and into the greenhouse.
  • Coordinate accurate checking in and pricing of all Greenhouse product delivered with the receiving team. Assist in offloading trucks, pricing plants, and moving racks.
  • Communicate with Greenhouse buyers and associates, other Sky departments, and drivers to ensure smooth receiving process.
  • Code invoices accurately and timely, working with Greenhouse buyers and Accounts Payable to ensure proper pricing.
  • Maintain dock organization, including rack storage, grower flat returns, and communication with Nursery to ensure enough space is available for all product.
  • Work as a part of the greater Sky team and assist with Greenhouse-wide tasks and efforts, including customer service & floor work, as needed.

Important Qualities for this Position:

  • Able to manage overall flow of deliveries while maintaining oversight of receiving team’s tasks. Can troubleshoot problems and deal with unforeseen challenges. Good on the fly.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic. Excellent coordinator and communicator. Can work effectively with a variety of personalities in a medium sized, complex business. Positive, professional, approachable and friendly with customers, drivers, and coworkers.
  • Dependable and committed. Able to work occasional overtime as needed and/or early receiving hours, especially in the spring.
  • Previous retail nursery/greenhouse experience, or inventory management experience required
  • Ability to calmly and effectively manage multiple moving pieces in (at times) a loud and busy environment

  • Assist customers to locate desired plant material and hard goods for purchase; accurately tag and relocate selected materials for later pickup or delivery.
  • Assist customers with plant/hardscaping questions or locate appropriate staff to answer technical questions.
  • Water, groom, price, and stock trees and shrubs.
  • Help unload incoming plant material and hard goods as needed.
  • Help maintain Sky’s physical cleanliness and order.
  • Work with other departments as needed.

The spring hiring process kicks off with applicant review and interview scheduling after the Job Fair in late January. We recommend attending the fair to meet directly with department leads and learn more about the kind of work you'll be doing through a behind-the-scenes tour.

We believe in establishing a consistent, reliable schedule that still remains flexible to the lives of our employees. As a retail business, we do ask that staff be available to work at least one weekend day. Full time and part time scheduling available.

Our busiest months are March-June, and these are the months where we need the most staff support. For this reason, most of our entry-level positions start seasonally in January or February and end in June or July. With this in mind, starting out seasonally can be a great step towards year-round employment at Sky. We also welcome employees who want to return seasonally year after year, and those who want to join us for just one season of work.

Sky Nursery has an active Minor Work Permit, so we are able to accept applications from those 16 years or older at time of hiring. Working at Sky can be a great spring/summer job or supplement to school!
