BULK LANDSCAPE MATERIAL
Whether you need one yard or thirty+, our range of bulk soils, amendments, mulches and gravels is a great way to get your landscape project done right.
SOIL MIXES
Build a Strong Foundation
Soil is the foundation of your landscape. It’s the structure that supports your plants’ roots and a reservoir for the water and nutrients they rely on. Soil drainage, structure and the percentage of organic material are all important factors in deciding which soil is right for your garden project.
Our bulk soils are blended with Cedar Grove Compost, which is a municipally recycled yard and food waste product. See our amendments below for more information.
AMENDMENTS
Improve Overall Soil Health
Amending or mixing materials like compost into existing garden soil helps improve its texture and water absorption, increasing the health of beneficial bacteria. Please note: compost is not a reliable source of complete plant nutrition, so fertilizer is still essential, especially for edibles/annuals!
Cedar Grove Compost
100% recycled, composted yard & food waste. Recommended as a soil amendment in ornamental/edible gardening, mixed with existing soil. NOT recommended as a topdressing. Weight: 1400 pounds per yard
PICKUP: $42 per yd, $27 for ½ yd DELIVERY: $57 per yd BAGS: 1 CF - $5.99
A Note on Cedar Grove: Each year, Cedar Grove diverts over 350,000 tons of Seattle-area food and yard waste from landfills, and converts it into rigorously-tested, rich garden compost. For a PNW home gardener, that means an environmentally beneficial closed loop on local yard and food waste.
As with any bulk recycled compost, despite stringent screening and filtration, small remnants of anything and everything your neighbors put in their green bins can end up in CG Compost, which means it may contain small pieces of plastic, glass & other inert materials.
As an alternative, we recommend a compost from our Bagged Materials page.
MULCHES
Protect & Beautify
For that finishing touch, add a protective or decorative layer of mulch to the top of your soil. Mulch can be almost anything, including woodchips, beauty bark, or even gravel. The right mulch for you will depend on what you’re growing and your specific goals. A mulch layer can protect your soil from the elements, conserve water, and give your landscape a “finished” look.
GRAVEL
For Paths & Drainage
Gravel is often useful for outdoor areas like driveways; it's also is a great material for larger paths through your garden or as a decorative mulch. Be sure to choose the right gravel for the right project. For example, the rounded rock of pea gravel doesn't make a great pathway material, because the pieces don't pack and can skitter away!
Please Note: Some variation in the color and overall blend of bulk gravel product is natural.
