Garden Resolutions: plan ahead for a bountiful year
What are your garden resolutions for the new year?
Spring will be here before we know it. No matter the size of your garden or your personal style, January is a great time to plan ahead for a vibrant new year. We have gardening goals of our own to suit our many different styles. After all, gardening is a constant learning process even for those of us who have been at this a while! Here are just a few garden resolutions from Sky’s staff.
Here are some of our resolutions.
Rachel
Put in drip irrigation to save water, figure out what to do with all the compost I've made, and eat the food I grow before the slugs do.
Gina
Get better at thinning my carrots!
Jesse
Add more caterpillar host plants to my pollinator garden, and dive into learning more about all the beneficial insects that live here.
Patrick
Right plant, right place! I want to create a drought-tolerant garden in the sandiest part of my yard.
Deb
Create a truly low-maintenance front yard with landscape fabric, river rock, and easy-care plants.
Celeste
Get better at pruning fruit trees. Learn how to shape two young European plums and how to promote new wood in two old Japanese plums.
Nick
Add to the orchard my grandfather started. The long-term goal is to have something fruiting year-round. This year the focus is on plums and persimmons.
Emily
Take better care of my garden tools, starting with not leaving them out in the rain!
Ashley
Make fairy gardens for my balcony with shade-tolerant annuals. I just moved, and I've never had a shade garden before.
Robin
Be low-stress about my garden – enjoy it more and worry less.
Karin
Build a new bed for my blueberries, with ollas (terracotta containers, for underground irrigation.
We hope that you've been inspired to make a few new goals for your garden in the coming year. Let us know how we can help!
