Q: What is the difference between winter and spring pansies?
A: Botanically, there is no intrinsic difference between "winter" and "spring" pansies. In fact, many of the same varieties are available spring through fall. In our climate, pansies will usually thrive in spring and fall, and survive and bloom sporadically in milder winters.

Pansies dislike heat and will usually not last through the summer. One thing to consider when choosing pansies for fall and winter, however, is that the showy large-flowered varieties are more susceptible to rain damage. In general, smaller-flowered cultivars are better winter color spots.
